serving on saturdays
On Saturdays Kids Rock provides opportunities to serve elderly or needy adults in the surrounding neighborhoods. Kids Rock kids shovel snow, rake leaves, mow lawns, help move furniture, stain decks, clean houses and more.
Today's urban youth are surrounded by adult role models that are steeped in dysfunction and a sense of entitlement. The adults they know often do not work and live off government assistance. Many kids have never experienced the fulfillment that comes from learning to pitch in, do chores and contribute to a family effort.
Meeting practical needs begins to build a lifestyle of service, a habit of giving back and an attitude of "paying it forward." Kids Rock team members, adult volunteers and teen leaders in training are on hand to teach practical skills and help younger members develop a sense of pride and joy in work.
Already Kids Rock has several teens that could not focus on simple task or chores when they started attending at 13 or 14 years old and now at 17 and 18 are successfully holding down jobs at restaurants and local businesses while continuing to improve their grades. Serving on Saturdays contributes critical character components.
